The Level Field Foundation - Our Stories

"Growing up in Inglewood (CA), I faced constant danger, and many impediments to leading a positive life. But basketball gave me an outlet, and a great way to focus my energies and make the best of myself. For me, playing basketball lead to a top-level education and a pro career -- but, even without that, it has given me great memories and helped to shape me as a man. I support The Level Field Foundation because they want to help other kids have those chances."

"Children with disabilities, like my daughter Jaime, who get the chance to play challenger sports are always so happy as they run, slide, make a shot, or score a touchdown.  The true spirit of competition and camaraderie is clear as the players get to experience the same athletic joys as their peers who don't suffer disabilities.  The kids' performance in these contests is a true inspiration to all who watch, and an incredibly uplifting experience for the players, who build a great deal of self-esteem.

A specially designed, all-purpose field, like the one The Level Field Foundation is helping us to build for the Miracle League, eliminates weather-related dangers, like wet or muddy fields, which could be very harmful for the players.  It also allows for an ample-sized, centralized location to give the kids' parents a welcome and consistent place to come each week.  The field-side interaction between the parents of the children with special needs provides opportunities for emotional and social support, and a means to share & learn with each other.  In addition, it gives them a chance to network about other community resources to better their lives, and those of their children.

Come watch a game.  It will change your way of looking at life, and the world we live in!"
